The author Margaret Atwood writes that "a word after a word after a word is power," but I think that's a wild understatement. Words are nothing less than the framework that holds society together. That makes choosing the right words vitally important.
I'm Brigid Brockway and I've dedicated my life to the art and craft of the written word. I have a bachelor's degree in English from Ursuline College, a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction from Ashland University, and fifteen years' experience in the field of technical writing. I have taught students at every age and ability level, from preschoolers to children with developmental disabilities to college students, and beyond.
As a technical writer, I mastered software including Adobe RoboHelp, Azure DevOps, Affinity Photo and Design, and of course, the Microsoft Office suite. I became well-versed in Agile methodology, learned search engine optimization, and handled CSS and HTML5. My work gave me the opportunity to join the Society for Technical Communication, where I both attended and lectured at the yearly Summit and served on the educational outreach committee.

In graduate school I learned a great many other skills. There, I crafted the essay collection Smells Like Hot Yoga, an experiential look at the fitness industry that allowed me to explore skills as diverse as research-heavy science writing, reportage, personal essay, memoir, and self-help. Coursework at Ashland also included assignments in literary criticism. 

Throughout my career I've also done freelance work that has included writing and editing marketing copy, product descriptions, and an essay broadcast on National Public Radio's All Things Considered. In addition, I have served as a submissions editor for both River Teeth literary magazine and Dark Moon Digest.

Finally, I take photographs on a Nikon D1000 and have the basic skills necessary to shoot photos to go along with an article if need be. 

I believe in making the world a better place through effective communication, one word after another after another.
